Out-of-Control Behavior: Should I Medicate My Child? by James Lehman
Unfortunately, a diagnosis and medication aren’t always a solution. Medications that target behavior problems are at best a shot in the dark and at worst can have many undesirable side effects and alter the child's personality.
This month in Empowering Parents, James Lehman takes a candid,
straight-ahead look at what medication can and cannot do for your child. Last Month's PollThank you to all those who participated in last month’s survey regarding parental concerns with their children. We were very encouraged to see so much participation. The inspiration for our survey was a poll of San Francisco Bay area parents that came to our attention. The poll indicated that anxiety and depression in children is a growing concern for parents. We were curious to know if this was the case with the Empowering Parents community as well. The verdict? Parents in our online community are more concerned with behavior problems at home, with nearly 56% of respondents putting this at the top of their list. School discipline problems were next, followed by concerns about drugs and alcohol. Stress and depression received six and four percent of the responses respectively. We look forward to seeing the results of This Month’s Survey to inform our editorial decisions on future article topics. Thank you in advance for your input. Apologies...The Contact Us form on EmpoweringParents.com was not working on the website for part of last month. Please accept our apologies if you took the time to write us and we have not responded. The form is working now and we would welcome your feedback. Sorry for the error. |
